The U.S. Congress is expected to introduce several proposals of concern to the broadcasting community because of their restriction on advertising. These include:
→ Granting rulemaking authority to the Federal Trade Commission;
→ Restricting food advertising as a means of combating childhood obesity
→ Ability to impose monetary penalties on broadcasters
The MAB is working closely with the state coalition to fight obesity that was put together to improve the health of Michigan citizens. During the most recent Governor’s Summit on Obesity, the panel of experts recommended a uniform statewide marketing campaign as means to change attitudes toward unhealthy foods.
