Michigan State House Insurance Committee has been hearing testimony on House Bill 4936 that would reform the No-Fault Insurance system in Michigan. HB 4936 was introduced by State Representative Pete Lund (R-36th) who is the Chair of the House Insurance Committee. The legislation would require a minimum of $250,000 in personal injury coverage and up to $5 million in total coverage. Michigan currently offers lifetime coverage for catastrophic injuries.
HB 4936 is strongly supported by the Insurance Institute of Michigan and the Chamber of Commerce. The opponents of the legislation include the Coalition Protecting Auto No-Fault (CPAN), the Michigan Association of Justice, Michigan Health and Hospital Association, and Michigan State Medical Society.
The MAB will continue to monitor and update you on this legislation.
