Public Act 128 (Congressional Redistricting) and PA 129 (Legislative Redistricting) were signed by Governor Snyder in August 2011 and will become effective in 2012 for the state and U.S. House and in 2014 for the State Senate. Michigan lost one Congressional seat because Michigan was the only state in the country to loose population over the last decade. The Legislative Black Caucus expressed its intention to file a lawsuit in the federal court challenging the redistricting maps on the basis of voter disenfranchisement and gerrymandering.
