Frequently Asked Questions
How do I submit a bid?
First, find the item you are interested in bidding on. Click "bid on this item"
button located under the item. Then complete the required information in
the appropriate fields. Once you've finished entering the required information,
click "Submit".
Your bid will then be registered and you will receive an email as receipt of
the bid.
-
Why does it say current bid and "Max" bid?
The "Max" bid is the amount you have to bid over to get the item. We have
displayed the "Max" bid so you know what number you have to beat to win
the item. When bidding, the "Max" bid you create is the actual amount you
commit to purchase the item at. The current bid is the minimum bid available
for that item and will not win you the item. The auction software used requires
both a current bid and a "Max" bid. Please keep in mind that
to win the particular item you must have the highest "Max" bid.
Can I pay for my item on line?
Credit card payments for the winning bids must be made online at the auction web site. Payments in the form of a check or money order must be made out to MAB Foundation and received within 7 business days after bidding closes. Payment must be sent to the MAB office and received before the item won is shipped.
Does my bid include shipping?
Unless otherwise specified, your bid does not include shipping costs. However, arrangements may be made to pick up items won.
Does my bid include sales tax?
Yes. The winning bid includes Michigan sales tax.
Can I return items won?
No. All sales are final. Items may only be returned if somehow the description or photograph of the item accidentally misrepresented the actual item purchased. Prior approval must be received before returning any purchased item.
Can I bid more than once?
Yes! More than one bid may be placed by auction participants on any auction item up for auction during open biding for that item. We encourage everyone to visit the auction often to make sure that their bid is still in the running for the item.
-
What is the "reserve price" and how is it determined?
The "reserve price" is the minimum price allowed for any auction item up
for bidding. For a bid to be accepted, it must meet or exceed the "reserve price"
set for each auction item. The "reserve price" for each item is thirty-three
percent (33%) of the "estimated value" of the item.
-
What is the "estimated value" and how is it determined?
The "estimated value" is the cost of the item submitted to the MAB Foundation
by the donor.
How will I be notified if I have won?
The individual who submitted the winning bid will be notified either by telephone or email shortly after the end of the auction by an MABF staff member. All matters involving payment and shipping of items won will be discussed at that time.
Do I have to be a member of the MAB or MABF to bid?
No. Everyone who is 18 years or older is welcome to bid on items up for auction.
If I buy an item, is my payment tax deductible?
You may receive tax deduction on any amount paid over the "estimated value" of
the item. This is not the same as the "reserve value" of the item. We advise
each buyer to consult with their tax advisor as to the tax ramifications of their
donation.
Who is responsible if the merchandise arrives damaged?
Shipping costs and insurance coverage is the responsibility of the winning bidder unless shipping of the item is included.
How can I donate an item to the auction?
To donate an item, please contact the MAB Foundation at (517) 484-7444 or at mabf@michmab.com.
What types of items are wanted for the auction?
Ideas for donated include: sports tickets (preferably good seats or a suite package), resort/ vacation packages, golf/ski packages, priceless items such as signed memorabilia, priceless experiences such as lunch with a celebrity or on-air opportunity on your station. Items up for bid in the auction will be changed quarterly. If you have a donation idea please contact the MABF at (517) 484-7444 or at mabf@michmab.com.
Is my donated item tax deductible?
You will receive a letter acknowledging the "estimated value" of your donated
item, which you may use for tax deduction purposes. We advise each donor to consult
with their tax advisor as to the tax ramifications of their donation.
