WLAV-FM Wins 2 Marconi Awards at NAB Radio Show
Citadel's WLAV-FM (Grand Rapids) received two prestigious Marconi Awards at the September NAB Radio Conference in Austin, Texas.

Tony Gates (left on photo), Afternoon Drive Personality on the station won an award for Medium Market Personality of the Year. Gates is a 23-year veteran of the station.

In addition, WLAV-FM itself received a Marconi for Medium Market Station of the Year. Program Director Rob Brandt (right on photo) accepted the award.

U.P. To Benefit From NOAA Grants
The Michigan State Police was recently awarded two Federal grants by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to improve emergency warning systems in five Upper Peninsula counties in the state. Larry Estlack, MAB Director of Technology and State EAS Chairman, along with MAB's NCSA/Community Affairs Manager Denise Weston wrote the grant requests.

Budget for New EAS Endec in 2009

In anticipation of a directive from FEMA for an upgrade in technology for the Emergency Alert System, it would be wise to budget for replacement of your present EAS ENDEC equipment sometime in 2009.

The final technical details and standards will not be announced until January or February 2009 by FEMA.

Lenawee Broadcasting Company's 103.9 WLEN-FM hosted a 24-hour fundraiser on Friday, October 17 to raise money for the Lenawee Country Mission.

Morning Personality Jerry Hayes and Promotions Director Lori Sallows camped out in cardboard boxes and raised $23,104.00 for the Mission during the 24-hour live broadcast, far above the original $10,000.00 goal.

WBCT-FM/Grand Rapids Holds 2008 "Roofsit For Kids" Radiothon and Concert
Clear Channel's WBCT-FM is held its 2008 B-93 Roofsit For Kids Radiothon on Tuesday, October 21. Since 1993, the station has raised more than $5 million for West Michigan agencies involved in treating and preventing child abuse and neglect. This year the annual fundraiser added a concert, also on October 21, featuring Country Superstar Taylor Swift.

WFUM-TV Goes All-DTV All The Time November 19!
On Wednesday, November 19, Michigan Television's WFUM-TV/Flint will become the first public television station in the state to switch to all digital broadcasting. Beginning then, viewers will need a converter box or a digital TV to watch the station if they are not subscribed to a cable or satellite provider.
