Attention Students: Attend GLBC
for FREE!
Are you interested in meeting 1,000 potential employers in one day? How
about networking with other students pursuing the career you are? If this is
you, then volunteering during the Great Lakes Broadcasting Conference could
be the best career move you ever make!
Volunteering is a great opportunity to meet all levels of Michigan
broadcasters and attend many seminars and events featuring broadcast industry
leaders.
Who can volunteer?
Any college student is invited to volunteer. Volunteers help out MAB
staff for at least a four-hour increment. Time slots are flexible
and are available Monday, March 10 and Tuesday, March 11.
What do I get for volunteering?
Aside from the valuable experience you will gain from working with
various broadcasters from across the state, and the many job contacts you
could make, each volunteer will receive complimentary Full Student Registration.
Full Student Registration covers all of the GLBC sessions and lunches.
How do I get more information or sign-up?
Contact Jamie Zoppa for available times. E-mail
meetings@michmab.com.
Requirements:
All volunteers need to possess the basic qualities desired by any
employer: you must be punctual, polite, pleasant, and neat in appearance.
We ask that volunteers wear business attire: suits or a nice shirt and tie
for men and business suits, dresses, or pant suits for women. No jeans are
permitted.
Volunteer positions and times are available on a first-come, first-serve
basis. We begin accepting volunteers in November and the positions are usually
filled at the end of January. We will try our best to accommodate your schedule.
The following are an example of the times available.

Here are some of the duties assigned to volunteers:
Registration Assistants:
Work with MAB staff to greet attendees, check in pre-registered attendees,
field questions and give directions. We expect many on-site registrations
as well. These volunteers will likely be sent on errands around the
conference.
Room Monitors:
Volunteers are assigned to a speaker or group of speakers to ensure that
they have everything they need and the session runs smoothly. Tasks include
door monitoring, distributing handouts, working the lighting, errand running,
changing slide trays, and just plain being there. This is one of the most popular
volunteer positions since the volunteers are able to sit in on the actual
sessions.
Broadcast Excellence Award Program Assistant:
This job involves setting up for the BEA
awards program, assisting attendees to available seats, and then
assisting in the distribution of the awards during the program.
Multi-Purpose Assistant:
Several volunteers are needed to simply fill in wherever needed:
if a speaker needs an extra person to help or if an extra volunteer is needed
for a particular event or session, running errands, etc.
Contact:
The Michigan Association of Broadcasters, phone (800) 968-7622
or e-mail meetings@michmab.com.
