Local Broadcast Radio -
The High Touch Experience

Michigan's Radio Broadcasters have been connecting with their communities for decades, offering music, news, local events, emergency information and thousands of unique programs that only local broadcasters can provide.

In 2005, Communications Research Institute (CRI) conducted a statewide survey of listener attitudes toward local radio stations and alternative, emerging technologies. The goal: find out what Michigan listeners really think about local broadcast radio.

The research results demonstrate that listeners of all ages place high value on the unique role that local radio stations play in their lives and their communities. Michigan radio listeners told CRI researchers that only local radio stations play music that reflects the unique culture of their communities. Listeners view their local radio station as the information link that keeps them in touch with what's happening in their communities.

Even as competitors emerge and new technologies compete for time and attention, local broadcasters continue to keep their place in the daily lives of their listeners.
