Interlochen Public Radio Receives Google New Initiative Grant for COVID-19 Coverage

Peter Payette

Interlochen Public Radio (IPR) has received $5,000 from Google News Initiative’s Journalism Emergency Relief Fund. The Journalism Emergency Relief Fund was founded to support the production of original journalism for local communities in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. The fund provides financial assistance to small- and medium-sized news organizations around the globe producing original news for local communities at this critical time.

“During this crisis, trustworthy sources of accurate and timely information are essential,” said Peter Payette, executive director of Interlochen Public Radio. “These funds will support the efforts of our dedicated reporters who are going to great lengths to provide timely information about the local impact of the pandemic. We’re proud to offer this important service to our northern Michigan neighbors.”

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Interlochen Public Radio’s reporters have worked tirelessly to bring up-to-date information about the virus’s movements and effects to the citizens of northern Michigan. The station recently launched a weekly COVID-19 newsletter to keep listeners informed about the latest developments.
