Michigan Broadcasters are Sharing our Story with Members of Congress

(L-R) MAB Board Chairman Scott Shigley (Liggett Communications), Rep. Lisa McClain (R-MI10), MAB President Karole White, and MAB President-Elect Sam Klemet

This week, MAB staff and members from stations across the state had the opportunity to meet in-person with Representatives Lisa McClain (R-MI10) and Peter Meijer (R-MI3) at their district offices as well as Representative John Moolenaar (R-MI4) virtually.

Advocacy is a core mission of the MAB and as our industry evolves, it’s critical to keep our nation’s lawmakers aware of what is needed legislatively to keep local TV and radio strong.

During the meetings, broadcasters shared the importance of the Local Radio Freedom Act which opposes any new performances fees and the Local Journalism Sustainability Act, which would provide tax credits for hiring journalists and for business who advertise on local stations.

The MAB will meet with other members of Congress in the coming weeks and continue to share not only the importance of these legislative items, but also use the time to share how our members in every pocket of the state are critical to the communities they serve.
