WCCW Serves Up ‘Concerts on the Lawn’ During Pandemic

Summers in Traverse City have, for many years, included a “Concert on the Lawn” series, where free concerts were put on at the grounds of the GT Pavilions. Faced with cancellation, Deb Allen, Executive Director of the Grand Traverse Pavilions Foundation, approached Midwestern Broadcasting General Manger Chris Warren with her dilemma and an idea! What if she had these scheduled performers come into our “Oldies 107.5” (WCCW-FM) studios to perform their 1-hour sets, to be heard across northern Michigan on the radio?

Warren and his staff made it happen and he reports that it has been wildly successful, as listeners are encouraged to sit out on a lawn or a deck or a boat on a nice summer evening and enjoy the regional performers. The residents of GT Pavilions were so happy to keep this tradition alive and the Community has embraced it.

Warren said his station “is proud to be a part of maintaining this community asset. Just another example of the important role local radio plays in its communities.”
