Wayne State University’s WDET-FM (Detroit) will be celebrating its 70th Birthday on July 10 with a summer street party in conjunction with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. The event will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. in the DSO Sosnick Courtyard at the Max M. & Marjorie S. Fisher Music Center, 3711 Woodward Avenue in Detroit.
The history of the station dates back to 1949, when it began broadcasting under the ownership of the United Automobile Workers, broadcasting public service programming for its membership and the general public.
In 1952 the station was gifted by the union to Wayne University for $1. The University then converted it to non-commercial status.
